Blue State Legislature Playbook
I believe, as an elected official in a “Blue State,” I need to do everything in my power to fight the brutal and corrupt policies of the current federal administration. Blue States (where Democrats hold majority power) have received special ire from Trump and his enablers and our residents are suffering.
We can and must DO MORE to protect our residents, to hold ICE accountable for their cruel, immoral, and illegal activity, and to combat Federal authoritarianism.

I recently wrote a Substack article about what actions we are taking in Maryland and what other states can do to assert their power to meet this moment.
No Kings Act
One way I have proposed throwing sand in the gears of federal authoritarianism is HB 332. If passed, it gives Marylanders a way to fight back in state courts when their civil rights have been violated by Federal agents. Read more about this approach here.

District 20 Night in Annapolis: February 23
Want to see the room(s) where it happens? Join me and my fellow D20 legislators in Annapolis. We will provide updates on what’s happening. Register here if you’d like to attend. Transportation can be provided.

How Many Unhoused People and Families Live in Our Community?
Once a year in January, volunteers go out after midnight to look for people living in shelters, temporary housing, and unsheltered settings. I joined this Point in Time Count once again because it provides data used at the federal, state, and local level and grounds our policies in data and compassion.
Unemployment Insurance: It’s Way Past Time to Update It
Weekly benefits from Maryland’s unemployment insurance program have not increased since 2010. I have introduced legislation to both modernize how the program is funded and make benefits provide a livable bridge for unemployed workers as they seek new employment. For a deeper drive into the issues, watch the hearing we held last week.
