Still Fighting for Clean, Affordable Energy

Dear Friend,

The legislative session may have ended, but my efforts to ensure we have clean, reliable, affordable energy continue full speed ahead!

PJM Annual Meeting

Last week I attended the annual meeting of our regional grid operator, PJM, and met with PJM Board members and staff of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.  I continue to call on them to add affordable clean energy to our grid, fix the capacity market, and implement rules to ensure data centers pay their share of their impact on the grid.  Click here for more coverage of the events.

My Bills Signed into Law

Last week three bills I wrote or worked extensively on were signed into law:

  • Utility RELIEF Act  Parts of my bills regarding energy affordability were incorporated into the RELIEF Act, including clean electricity capacity for data centers, efficiency and affordability of transmission technology, plug in solar, and other structural changes that will lower energy bills.

  • No Kings Act  Through this legislation, Marylanders will have a way to fight back when their civil rights have been violated by Federal agents.

  • Fire Safety  After a deadly fire in a high-rise apartment building, my 2024 “Melanie Diaz Fire Safety Act” created a work group to see what could be done to prevent a similar tragedy from occurring.  This bill implements their recommendations for training of personnel and improving fire safety in high-rise apartments.

*Correction: In our End of Session recap, we incorrectly stated that HB577/SB334, prohibiting the sale of DIY handguns that can be easily and quickly converted into fully automatic weapons using illegal “switches,” did not pass both chambers.  It did pass and is now awaiting the Governor’s signature.

Like What I’m Doing? Attend my June 1st Fundraiser

Join me in kicking my campaign into high gear on Monday, June 1st.  We will gather at Silver Branch Brewing in downtown Silver Spring from 6:00-7:30 p.m.  Maryland House Speaker Joseline Peña-Melnyk will be my special guest.  Get full details and R.S.V.P. here.

By making a financial donation to my campaign, you show your support of me and my fellow Democrats all across Maryland.  I am actively campaigning for re-election.  With the help of ten paid interns, I am going door-to-door in the community.  We are making sure people feel heard and connected to help and to the movement to save our democracy.

Yard signs

Nothing says love like a Lorig sign in your yard or apartment window.  Sign up here to have one hand-delivered by one of my fabulous interns to your home.
