Let’s get into some good trouble. Join me, Do the Most Good, Indivisible MoCo, Moms Rising, Silver Spring Progressive Action, and lots of your neighbors as we continue to protest the abuses of this administration.
Why? Protests prevent the disheartening “spiral of silence,” which can start when people wrongly believe their point of view is not widely shared.
So this Thursday we will once again line up with protest signs along Colesville Road from Hastings Drive to the I-495 overpass from 6:00–7:00 pm. Afterwards, join us for a community potluck at the Indian Spring Rec. Center (9717 Lawndale Dr., Silver Spring) at 7:15 pm. Feel free to drop your dish off at the Rec. Center before you come to the rally.
Good Trouble Lives On is committed to nonviolence. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontations.

Food Forests are Fantastic!
How wonderful to see so many community members at the Montgomery College Food Forest this past Saturday! I hosted the event with the Montgomery College Permaculture Club and the Community Food Forest Collective.
Food Forests are important because they:
– promote ecologically-beneficial, regenerative agriculture,
– increase the resilience of our local food system,
– provide food for anyone walking (or flying or crawling!) by, and
– create cherished community spaces and connections.
I have written legislation to facilitate more food forests on public land, which would be open to anyone. My bill also creates a foraging license, similar to a hunting license, to allow Marylanders to forage on state lands. I intend to re-introduce this bill in 2026.

Unemployment Insurance Oversight Hearing
Improving the Unemployment Insurance (UI) system in Maryland is something I have been working on for several years. I have written legislation to modernize UI seeks by:
establishing adequate benefit levels—the current maximum weekly benefit is $430, which has remained unchanged since 2010,
and ensuring our UI trust fund remains solvent.
Last week I co-chaired an Unemployment Insurance Oversight Committee meeting to draw attention to projections of potential insolvency in our trust fund, if we don’t act soon. We also discussed the inadequacy of current benefit levels. You can watch the hearing here.
I will be re-introducing my Unemployment Insurance Modernization Act in 2026 to address these issues.
