Updates from Annapolis and District 20 Night

Dear Friend,

We are officially one week into the 441st Session of the Maryland General Assembly. We began with the historic election of Adrienne Jones as Speaker of the House. It was an honor to cast my vote for such an incredibly talented person, and the first woman and first African American Speaker of the Maryland House of Delegates.

While the first week of Session may seem slow from the outside, within our office, we are working hard to finalize a number of exciting, progressive bills to protect working people, fight climate change, move Maryland toward zero waste, build a strong local food system, and improve police response to mental health crisis. We are also looking forward to working with our colleagues to secure funding for the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future – bringing equitable, world-class education to all students in our State.

I will be posting summaries of my bills and their progress on my website in the next week. My local food system legislation has already received press, which you can read here.

Please save the date for District 20 Night in Annapolis on February 17th from 6 – 8pm. We will provide transportation from the District 20 area to Annapolis and will share those details soon.

This weekend, I will be at the Manna Food Drive on Sunday, January 19th, between 9am – 12pm at the White Oak Giant, 11221 New Hampshire Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20904. Manna Food Center feeds 3,200 hungry families a month. This effort is an essential part of keeping Manna’s shelves stocked and our Montgomery County neighbors fed throughout the winter months. Please come by to donate non-perishable food items.

As always, feel free to stop by my office in Annapolis any time – Room 226, Lowe House Office Building, 6 Bladen St. Annapolis, MD 21401. My phone number is 410-841-3423. Please e-mail constituent issues to lorig.charkoudian@house.state.md.us.

Onward, Lorig Charkoudian
