New Year, New Speaker

I am beyond thrilled and excited to have been part of the historic election of our new Speaker of the Maryland House of Delegates, Joseline Pena-Melnyk.  Throughout her life and especially in her almost twenty years of service in the House, she has led with compassion, integrity, and a commitment to justice and inclusion. Joseline has been a personal mentor to me and so many others. I look forward to working under her leadership as we continue to move Maryland forward. 

Food Forests

Learn more about one of the most joyful and soul-restorative projects happening in our community.  I recently spoke with Tierney Acosta, one of the leaders of the Food Forest being created at Montgomery College’s Takoma Park campus.  Our 30-minute conversation covered the seven layers of a food forest, how community and camaraderie have grown alongside green tomatoes, and how these efforts fight food insecurity and climate change.  This year I am once again sponsoring legislation to promote more food forests throughout the state.

Walk and Talk:  Sunday, January 25

While I am gearing up for the next legislative session and will be spending lots of time in Annapolis, I will also continue to spend lots of time in the district meeting with constituents.  I invite you to join me at my first “Walk and Talk” of the new year on Sunday, January 25th, from 2:00–4:00 pm, in the White Oak area.  More details to come!
